eLearning potential of services
The potential services were chosen in order to find out what is important for eLearning and what should be available on mobile devices. These services are:
- browsing and searching information from internet;
- library services: libraries provide facilities for reading, online catalogs and material, education on information retrieval and information services. Independent information retrieval is available at any library. Basic guidance and information services are free of charge while more specialized services are charged;
- read, create and share learning related text, audio and video messages: for these you can use the social network services. A social network service uses software to build online social networks for communities of people who share interests and activities or who are interested in exploring the interests and activities of others. Most services are primarily web based and provide a collection of various ways for users to interact, such as chat, messaging, email, video, voice chat, file sharing, discussion groups, blogging and so on. Another way to share is Social Bookmarking and Tagging, the social bookmarking strategies you can find at this link, or on youtube;
- manage pictures and attach time, position and other metadata to pictures: you can say this in one word: geotagging, which is adding geographical identification metadata to various media such as websites, RSS feeds, or images and is a form of geospatial metadata.;
- participate at video and audio conferencing: an audio conferencing is a voice-only connection between three or more locations. A video conferencing is a live video and audio communication between three or more locations;
- check and send e-mail messages;
- internet calendars (related to personal needs and learning): internet calendars are calendars shared through the Internet; are based upon a global Internet standard that allows calendar information to be exchanged regardless of the application that is used to create or view the information. You can update your calendar, receive information about changes in your calendar and receive reminder messages from your calendar. You can receive all of these by SMS (on your mobile phone) or by e-mail (which can also be sent to your mobile phone);
- produce learning related social contents, blogs, wikis: this can refer to Social Web. The Social Web refers to two different, yet related concepts. The first is as a description of web 2.0 technologies that are focused on social interaction and community before anything else. The second is a proposal for a future network similar to the World Wide Web.
- play, record and share audio and video clips: you can do all of these by using podcast. How to create a podcast you can find at this link.
